As some Governors distanced themselves from protesters in their states, the Rivers and Zamfara State governments have identified with the plight of the Nigerian youth.
Addressing the protesters at the Government House, Gusau, Commissioner for Project Implementation, Nasiru Zurmi pointed out that the Zamfara State Government acknowledges the legitimacy of the issues raised by protesters regarding the removal of fuel subsidies, hunger and insecurity bedeviling the state.
Zurmi expressed solidarity with the grievances of the residents and called on the Federal Government to come up with solutions that will relive the citizens.
While urging the Federal Government to take into account the widespread public outcry and the adverse economic impacts of the subsidy removal, he however appealed to the protesters to be peaceful and avoid vandalizing properties.
Receiving the protesters who marched to the Government House in Port Harcourt Rivers State capital, Governor Sim Fubara expressed his appreciation for their orderly conduct and genuine desire for positive change and reassured the youths of his administration’s commitment to improving the state’s economy and the overall welfare of its residents.
Governor Fubara who acknowledged the economic difficulties faced by many in the state, emphasized the importance of addressing the protesters’ concerns promptly.
“The peaceful nature of your protests shows a genuine desire for positive change,” he said. “It underscores the necessity for us, as a government, to take immediate and meaningful action.”
He urged the protesters to maintain their patience and trust in his administration’s efforts to enact economic reforms and cautioned them to remain vigilant against individuals who might attempt to hijack the peaceful demonstrations to incite violence, especially given the sensitive political climate.
