There are indications that vehicular movement between seven and half junction and umuoke Obowo, Imo State located along the strategic Umuahia – Owerri road may come to an abrupt stop any moment following the collapse of the middle portion of the entrance to Aham bridge Umuoke Obowo.

The landslide which has seen only a side of the entrance barely manageable to cars and moderate buses has now resulted in lorries diverting to use the dilapidated Sam Mbakwe road.

Speaking with Hanto Daily News, some residents of the area said they woke up early last week to see the ugly site which has now turned to a big risk for night travellers who are unaware of the situation.

They appealed to the Imo State government to urgently tackle the ugly development which may soon result in loss of lives by compelling the contractor already handling the reconstruction of the road from the Owerri end to come and address the problem.

.

The residents who have used bamboo to indicate signs and demarcate the affected portion, expressed fears that if the matter is left untreated for a few days, it might lead to the collapse of the bridge.
