In his avowed determination to continue to empower Youths through grassroots sports, the Speaker Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Uche C Ugwu has once again showered talents discovered through the state’s Grassroots boxing talent hunt that are currently making waves at the national level.
Speaking on the occasion, Rt. Hon. Ugwu restated the desire of the Enugu State government to continuously work towards the development of grassroots sports.
He pointed out that adopting such measures would not only empower talented Youths but help in drastically reducing crime and criminality in society.
He expressed happiness that talents discovered at various editions of the Speaker Enugu State Grassroots boxing tournament ment are now making impactful waves at different levels and assured that he will not resent supporting their growth.
The highly related Speaker who announced cash awards for the oug Boxers commended the Coordinator of the talent hunt programme and Ex – International Boxer, Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo for dedicating his energy to the development of Enugu youths.
Reacting to the gesture, the Coordinator of the Grassroots boxing talent hunt exercise, Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo described the event as heartwarming and commendable and urged the Speaker to continue this patriotic act.
He therefore called on the well to do and other South East States to emulate the Enugu State example to reduce tension in the zone.
In their speeches, the Young Boxers thanked the Speaker for his magnanimity and assured that they will continue to remain good Ambassadors of Enugu State.
The Boxers rewarded include Maxwell Anikwe , Chisom Ani, Chinaemerem Okoronkwo, Jude Ugwuanyi, Israel Ogbodo, James Igwe, Chinaza Okoronkwo, Victory Nnaji, Shadrack Obememe and Egbo Chisom.
The historic event attracted the presence of Members of the Enugu State Executive council, House of Assembly, Local Government Chairmen, Heads of Agencies and other Top Government Officials.
