The Cross River State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon. Elvert Anyambem, was Wednesday morning impeached by his colleagues over alleged gross misconduct and administrative high handedness.
According to reports, the plot to remove Anyambem has been on for over months as members have been expressing misgivings at his conduct.
As at Tuesaday, over 20 members have signed up for his impeachment and the motion for his removal was moved on the floor of the House by member representing Calabar South 1, Hon. Effiong Ekarika and seconded by Charles Omang.

The exercise however resulted to a free-for-all following the impeachment as the House turned chaotic while the sitting rounded off, with members fighting over the mace.
The fisticuffs ended the sitting which saw 17 members out of 25 impeach Ayambem and the majority taking the mace away .
