The Senate has called on the Federal government to immortalize the first civilian Governor of Abia state, Dr. Ognonnaya Onu who died last month.
This came on the heels of a motion on the demise of the former Minister of Science and Technology sponsored by the Member representing Ebonyi South, Senator Anthony Ani.
The lawmakers described late Onu as an Icon, a nationalist and visionary leader who sacrificed a lot for the Unity and development of the country, the Igbos and Ebonyi state in particular.
Speaking on the matter, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, noted that the late Dr Onu was a brige builder, simple and humble man as well as a friend to all who was always ready to concede for the sake of peace of the nation and called on all to derive lessons from his lifetime.
The Senate observed a minute silence for the late Ogbonnaya Onu and sent a delegation to pay a condolence visit to the family.
