Rivers LG Polls Outcome: Thugs invade, burn Secretariats

After a few hours of the reported burning of a part of Eleme Local Government secretariat, the newly built council secretariat at Isiokpo in the Ikwerre Local Government area has also been set ablaze.

According to a report by Channels Television, a resident in the area confirmed the incident this Monday though there are videos circulating on social media showing the administrative building on fire.

Meanwhile Police authorities in Rivers State which had earlier said they were withdrawing for Council Headquarters have not commented on the incident and the extent of damage is still unclear.

Also, the Rivers State Government is yet to issue any statement though Governor Sim Fubara has during the swearing in of the newly elected Chairmen charged them to shun acts capable of escalating destruction and tension in their areas.

Meanwhile, thugs in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area have prevented the newly sworn-in council chairman from gaining access to the local government secretariat.

The thugs who are opposing the outcome of the election mobilized to block the entry of the newly elected officials, adding to a growing wave of protests and violence in other parts of the state.

The thugs are allegedly supporters of the Federal Capital Territory minister and former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike.

Similar incidents have been reported in Oyigbo, and Ahoada East LGAs.

According to reports, some persons have protested chanting “No Wike, no Rivers State, no Wike, no Secretariat”
