As controversy continues to surround the recent list released of the Governing councils and Boards of federal Tertiary institutions in the country, stakeholders have asked the ministry of Education and President Bola Tinubu to take a second look at the list.
Some who spoke to Hanto Daily News said this has become necessary to address the issue of fair representation and equity in the new councils and boards to eradicate lopsidedness already discovered in the just released list.
Speaking in Umuahia, Abia state capital, some who spoke including, Samuel Onyebuchi, Anthony Oparaugo and Onyemaechi Okpara described the appointment two indigenes of a state into a governing of a federal institution as suspicious and capable of creating fear and tension.
They noted that it is abnormal to allow such to occur in federation like our country where there are always diverse interest and opinions
In their contibutions, some University Dons and Non-Academic staff of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike,MOUAU, who preferred anonimity, described as unfair for the chairman of the governing council and another member appointed into the same council to be from the same state when it should be constituted with spread, to equitably cover all interest and groups.
According to them, in the spirit of equity and for representation, the appointment of two persons from the same state could result in undue suspicion and marginalization and subsequent crisis that could affect the running of the University.
They therefore called on President Tinubu to address this anomaly which is already generating reaction among Nigerians and the academic circle.
It would be recalled that the newly released list for MOUAU has Comrade Fidelis Edeh from Enugu state as Chairman with Barr. Lodrick Ene also from Enugu as one of the members.
