A few hours after the reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Phillip Shuaibu dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and rejoined All Progressives Congress, APC, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, says that the candidate of PDP, in the September governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, would still win and succeed him.
Speaking on Saturday during a meeting with PDP leaders from each ward across the 18 local government areas of the state in Benin City, Governor Obaseki assured that Ighodalo would do better than him as Governor because he possessed intellect, integrity, and discipline.
The Governor who summoned the meeting aimed at strategising ahead of the September 21 governorship election, noted that the PDP candidate for the September Guber polls has all it takes to take Edo to greater heights.
“I have known him for about four decades and I thank God for giving us somebody who I am certain will do better than I have done. He has the attributes of intelligence and integrity and grew up under the great discipline of his mother.
“I am convinced that with the efforts that all of you have put in, Asue Ighodalo will be the Governor of Edo State come September 21, 2024. We are the only party in the state, and I am not afraid, we will win the election.” Obasi enthused.
Philip Shuaibu who was reinstated by a federal high court a few days ago as the Deputy Governor of Edo State after being impeached by the House of Assembly some months ago, opted to rejoin his former God Father, Senator Adams Oshiomhole in APC having failed to secure the PDP ticket following a long battle with his Boss, Governor Obaseki over successorship.
