Paris Olympics: Ex – International Boxer calls for total investigation of Team Nigeria’s poor outing

Ex – Nigeria International Boxer, Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo has Called on the National Assembly to urgently and thoroughly investigate Nigeria’s outing in the just concluded Paris Olympics.

In a statement issued on the Country’s poor performance, Mazi Okoronkwo noted that the investigation should help find out what happened during the qualifiers for the games via trials and availing all sections fair representation opportunities as well as proffering solutions to forestall a repeat.

 He called on Authorities to commence immediate practical preparations for Los Angeles 2028, as is the case in sports achieving Nations, if Nigeria will want to avoid such disaster in the next tournament

The EX- International Boxer further described the appointment of those who are not knowledgeable in sports to oversee the ministry as a problem and solicited the appointment of professionals into the ministry instead of using it as a source of compensation.

According to him Sports ministry should be seen as an empowerment source for youths to acquire skills that could make them millionaires and source of inspiration to other youths

Mazi Okoronkwo lamented that school sports that fall under local government areas are times hijacked by state officials whose interest is just to make money from tournaments and stressed the need to allow procedural Talent Hunt to enable the systematic training of such talents that will make the nation proud in future.

He further advocated that scouted talents should be in the employ of the state sports councils to enable the proper grooming and ownership of such talents before proceeding to national competitions for global honours and accused most Political office holders leading ministries of sports of only being interested in embezzling tournament funds.
