Olokoro Women honour Chief Onuigbo as Ezienyi Uvoma

Women of Olokoro in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia state have used this year’s annual August conference to once more exhibit their love and trust on the personality of the member representing the South East in the North East Development Commission and immediate past member that represented Ikwuano/ Umuahia North/ Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Chief Sam Onuigbo as they honoured him as “Ezienyi Uvoma”.

The honour which came more than one year after the Ikwuano born Diplomat cum Politician left the House of Representatives was really an indication that one can always be remembered by what he has done.

Addressing the gather that held during the annual August Conference organized by Olokoro Development Union Women Federated at Olokoro Central School field Umuahia Chief Onuigbo expressed gratitude to the woman for still remembering him and his contributions to the development of the clan despite the fact that he is no longer an elected political office holder and described the award as one that was not bought but earned.

“This sort of honour is quite rare these days, considering the fact that most Political Leaders are forgotten as soon as they leave office. I will seriously guard and cherish this noble gesture which for sure will inspire me to identify with the people in all situations”, he observed.

 The member representing the South East in the North East Development Commission commended the Women for their zeal in supporting their husbands in the areas of development and peace building in their clan and called on them to sustain their supportive role in the development of the society.

Chief Onuigbo also lauded the leadership of the women union for ensuring peace in their clan which is the fulcrum for harmony and development and assured them of his partnership and support in building a better society.

In their separate speeches, the Chairman of the occasion and Provost, College of Education Technical Arochukwu, Professor Vincent Onwe and the President General, Olokoro Clan Development Union, Chief Dike Nzenwa represented by his first Vice, Mr Patrick Umekwe described the theme of this year’s conference ” Seed of Change, the future Uvoma child” as apt and aplauded the leadership of the women for their reconciliatory initiatives and for using the conference to address contemporary issues affecting the development of the clan.

In her address, the President General, Olokoro Clan Development Union Women Federated, Deaconess Oluchi Atu restated the determination of the present leadership of the women in efficiently serving the clan and identified their project for this year as the flooring of the Olokoro Clan Development Union headquarters premises among others,

Contributing, the immediate Past President General of the women, Ugoeze Angela Ifeanacho appreciated the long standing relationship between Chief Onuigbo and the clan which has saw him attracting and contributing effectively towards its development and described the honour to him as well deserving.
