The National Convener of The Nigerian Project, Ochiagha Raegan Ufomba has charged the thirty six states and FCT Administrators of the organization to work assiduously to ensure that the mission and objectives of the project are echoed in all nooks and crannies of the country through sustained mobilization and sensitization of members and the public.
Chief Ufomba who gave the charge during the inaugural meeting of the administrators, noted that they are on a mission which began three months ago to revive The Nigerian Project which was the foremost campaign structure of former military head of state General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (Rtd) whose people-centric ideology and legacies they want to promote and preserve.
“Our objectives are clear and unambiguous. They align with the principles of fostering an inclusive environment where our voices are heard, ideas are canvassed and allowed to flourish, initiatives are effectively implemented, and sustainable progress is achieved.
We are committed to boldly addressing the challenges that hinder our people: poverty, lack of access to quality education, unemployment, and barriers to economic growth and empowerment”, he said.
He further revealed that during the 83rd birthday anniversary of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, his friends, associates and admirers resolved to honor him with a befitting legacy which reviving, promoting, and preserving his political, social, and economic philosophies encapsulated in IBBnomics stressing that The Nigerian Project was adopted as the pivotal vehicle to actualizing the purpose.
Ochiagha Ufomba maintained that their action is backed by the constitution of Nigeria which guarantees every citizen the right to assembly, freedom of association and expression which are also reinforced by international treaties such as the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) which Nigeria is a signatory.
He pointed out that The Nigerian Project does not discriminate as her membership transcends tribe, religion, political affiliation, age, and gender or political status.
According to him, “Indeed, a new Nigeria is possible and it is possible through collaborative action rooted in IBBnomics, integrity and transparency, dynamism and tangible results. In two-party system, option A4, and electoral reforms that make votes count and winners determined by the ballot, and not by the judiciary. It is on record that IBB mid-wifed the first and only free and fair election in our nation. The actus reus cannot be right without a corresponding mens rea. Therefore, rescuing the baby from the bath-water remains the wisest thing to do as a nation”. he concluded.
