Abia State Government says it has taken significant steps towards ensuring transparency and accountability in procurement and contact management system through the State’s Procurement Bureau.
Speaking with Newsen in his office, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Otti and Head Procurement Bureau, Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu noted that with the new initiative introduced by Governor Alex Otti, every contractor in the State is now registered according to stringent criteria, thereby eliminating past irregularities.
He made it clear that gone were the days when emergency contractors, were hurriedly and illegally recruited for selfish reasons and expressed delight that government now ensures that all contracts in the state adhere to strict due process.
Dr. Chukwu pointed out that Governor Otti’s focus on due process aims to position Abia State on the path to sustainable growth as well as ensure that public projects are executed by qualified, vetted contractors.
The SSA argued that the enforcement of these regulations is crucial to Dr. Alex Otti’s broader vision of transforming Abia State’s infrastructure and economy, as well as safeguarding public funds and promoting efficient execution of contracts.
“The new system not only eliminates emergency and unqualified contractors but also ensures that all public projects follow a thorough vetting process. This harmonization of contractor registration strengthens trust between the government and the people of Abia State, as projects are now executed with higher quality, efficiency, and within legal frameworks, he explained.
