Abia State Commissioner for Sports and Youth development, Mr Nwaobilor Ananaba has officially made public that the State contingent to the just concluded National Youth Games held in Asaba, Delta State came home with 7 gold,12 Silver and 12 bronze medals.
Mr Ananaba who dropped the hint while answering questions from Newsmen during the weekly EXCO briefing by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, at government House Umuahia, said the Contingent was part of the talents discovered at the secondary school Sports Competition Organized by the state government at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
He further revealed that 6 Abia athletes who were successfully selected by Hungarian scouts during the Secondary school Sports Competition have been taken to Hungary for professional football, adding that 2 other Abia footballers have also been loaned to a Club in Europe.
The Sports Commissioner noted that one of the Players of Abia Angels Miss Nmesoma has been sent to the USA on the approval of the Governor to advance her academics and football career, pointing out that with what the state government has put in place more champions will emerge from various sporting activities.
