Abia state Governor, Dr Alex Otti has made it clear that his administration is not a government that shares money but one thaT uses the state resources to work for the people
Governor Otti who stated this during a Town Hall meeting with the 5 LGAS in Abia North Senatorial District as part of activities to mark his one year in office at the Ohafia Local government headquarters assured the people of Abia North Senatorial District of his resolve towards addressing infrastructural challenges in the zone as part of his grassroot development agenda.
While appreciating the people of Abia North for their massive support culminating in his electoral victory last year, he said his administration is poised to change the narrative across board as well as remain focused despite obvious challenges, stressing that the meeting affords him an opportunity to interact with the people to identify their needs and the way forward.
“The second reason we came here is also to listen to you and I’ve listened to you. It’s also to have an interface with you because in the last twelve months, we have been running around everywhere and we haven’t had an opportunity to sit down. I’m happy that I’ve listened to you. A lot of people that spoke, spoke about roads, I’m sure you remember that about less than a year ago, there was even no road but today, we are making progress. The journey of a thousand miles starts with one step. I can assure you that this journey has started and it will never stop”, the Governor pointed out.
He used the forum to reassure Abians of his readiness to submit himself to audit by the time his government is over and stressed the need for leaders to uphold transparency.
Dr Otti announced that his administration will from next month Commence local government tour of the 17 Local government councils in the state in order to have an assessment of the area.
“Of course we cannot do everything one day, of course there may be things that we’ve not done right, because we are only human and if there’s anything that we’ve not done right, bring them to us so that we can review them. So what I can assure you is that we have every community in mind, we have every ward in mind, we have every local government in mind”, Otti assured.
In his remark, the Deputy Governor, Chief Ikechukwu Emetu who said the town hall meeting is designed to better the welfare of the people of Abia North enjoined them to bare their minds to the Governor, saying that Governor Alex Otti has within the period under review redefined Governance.
In their speeches, the national vice chairman, South East of the labour party, Elder Ceekay Igara and the member representing Arochukwu state constituency, Uchenna Okoro who expressed joy that the Governor has been living up to expectation asserted that every part of the state including the grassroots are feeling the impact of good Governance.
Addressing the people on behalf of other Mayors of the zone, the mayor of Ohafia local government area, Chief David Onuoha commended the governor for his responsive governance which he described as a testament to addressing the needs and aspirations of the communities across the zone.
He described the meeting as an honour and beacon of hope for the senatorial district which he noted will foster unity and development across the state especially his grassroots approach to governance.
While giving the scorecard of their various councils, the mayors of Isuikwuato , Air Vice marshall Chiwendu Onyike Rtd, Umunneochi, Mr Ndubuisi Ike and Mr Chijioke Nwankwo of Bende highlighted their various achievements made possible through the support of the Governor and commended him for what he has been able to accomplish within one year of his government.
The meeting provided opportunity for stakeholders and Community leaders in Abia North to present their challenges to the Governor for possible attention.
