MOUAU Agribusiness incubation center calls for more interest in fishery

A Lecturer in the Department of Fishery Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, MOUAU, Dr Emeka Awom has challenged Fish farmers to adopt hygienic measures that will ensure adequate protection of their fish from disease contaminations .

Dr Awom who stated this while featuring on a Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State, BCA, Radio interactive programme , dubbed Farmers’ Friday beign Sponsored by Agric Business Incubation Center MOUAU Urged them to ensure that they keep their ponds and surroundings clean and conducive to prevent diseases contaminations.

He said that regular washing or treating of the tank outlet where the fishes are kept, applying leaves or animal waste, scooping out unwanted substances and putting livelihood support incentives like fish feeds will ensure healthy fish production as well as guarantee its live span.

The Fish Specialist said that people especially intending fish farmers can adopt surface fish pond, build small concrete fish pond, trampoline tank for personal consumption and sale in exchange for money.

He enjoined people to visit MOUAU Agric Business Incubation Center to get trained and empowered on the best ways of engaging in fish production or to purchase any kind of fish at subsidized rate.
