Academic activities are to restart at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike from the 13th of this month (May) following the decision of the Institution’s senate this Monday to reopen the University.
Investigations by Hanto Daily News indicate that the Senate met today, Monday, 6/5/24, exactly three months after the Institution was closed down following a violent protest that led to the destruction of properties.
According to reports, all forms of outstanding registration issues will commence from Tuesday (7/5/24) while students are expected back on Sunday (12/5/24) as full academic activities are to restart the next day.
The senate also approved that first semester examinations which were interrupted by the violent protest will begin from 20th of May.
As at the time of filing this report, it is not clear whether students are to pay any form of reparation levy, though there have been strong rumours that each student is to pay twenty-five thousand naira.
It would be recalled that parents, stakeholders in the education sector and even the students had appealed to the Senate to reopen the Institution for the University to catch up with others.
