Kano Govt calls for calm, total compliance to Appeal Court judgement

In apparent reaction to Friday’s Court of Appeal judgment on Kano Emirate stool tussle, the State Government has called on all relevant authorities, institutions, and individuals to comply fully with the judgment that resolved the long-standing dispute over the Emirate Council reforms.

Addressing a news conference this Saturday at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano, a delegation of top government official comprising the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Ibrahim Adamu; the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Musa Bello; and the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Halima Yusuf, stressed the need for strict adherence to the ruling.

The Kano State government noted that the judgment not only validates its reforms but also sets a precedent for respecting constitutional boundaries in chieftaincy affairs.

“This judgment marks a turning point in our efforts to harmonize tradition and progress.

“Let us all prioritize the collective good of Kano State and move forward in unity,” the commissioners remarked.

The government restated its commitment to fostering unity and development in Kano and assured citizens of its readiness to work closely with traditional institutions to preserve Kano’s cultural heritage while advancing modernization and development.

“This is a victory for justice and fairness.

“This judgment marks a turning point in our efforts to harmonize tradition and progress,” the commissioners jointly stated. “Let us all prioritize the collective good of Kano State and move forward in unity.”

Recall, the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, had on Friday overturned earlier decisions by the Federal High Court and upheld the legality of the Kano State Government’s actions regarding chieftaincy appointments and the restructuring of the state’s traditional institutions.
