As a way of empowering and giving youths in the State a sense of belonging, Governor Sani Uba of Kaduna State has gifted ₦100,000 and smartphones to the released #EndBadGovernance protesters who are from the State.
Performing the ceremony, Governor Sani represented by the Secretary to Kaduna State Government Abdulkadir Meyere promised to also rehabilitate the 39 released protesters and empower them if they turn a new leaf.
He directed the collection of the credentials of those protesters who have completed their tertiary education, adding that the Government will be tracking the activities and conduct of all the protesters to ensure they are of good behaviour before benefitting from the promised empowerment.
He said, “The state government has taken the details of the released detainees including contact addresses, telephone numbers, and names of their next of kin, for easy tracking and monitoring”.
The Governor further revealed that the released protesters were all medically examined and given psycho-social counselling on the need to change for the better to be useful to themselves and society at large.
Recall, the protests which was largely peaceful took place in August owing to the harsh economic conditions in Nigeria but later turned to a violent demonstration in some parts of the country with properties destroyed.
Following this the Federal Government arraigned some of the demonstrators on a 10-count charge and this action met with strong criticisms and outrage after some of them were spotted as minors.
The outcry forced President Bola Tinubu to ask for their immediate release.
