Chief Sam Onuigbo, Member Representing Southeast in the North East Development Commission, has called for the proper incorporation of Climate Change Discipline in school curriculum across the educational levels in the country and MDA’S for the rapid inculcation of the Climate Change massage across all sections of society.
Delivering a keynote address during the 2024 World Environment Day Celebration organized by the National Root Crops Research Institute NRCRI Umudike, Chief Onuigbo pointed out that the gesture would ensure every child gets acquainted with issues associated with climate change and environment challenges and take proper actions.
Chief Onuigbo who is the immediate Past Member that Represented Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency commended the Leadership of the Institute led by the Excutive Director NRCRI Umudike, Prof Chiedozie Egesi for championing the sustainable approach of President Bola Tinubu towards enlightening the public on the need to be conscious of their environment and guard it against degradation and other challenges, urged them to sustain the good work.
Addressing the audience, the Executive Director NRCRI Umudike, Prof Chiedozie Egesi said the event aims at raising the consciousness of people towards environmental challenges and ensuring food security in the society.
He noted that the program also coincided with the commissioning of the institution’s Carbon Rejuvenative Agro Forestry, comprising indigenous economic tree crops that is connected with inter-crop tube and roots planting adding that the Agribusiness outfit will serve as a demonstration farm for Land rejuvenation and Management in the country.
In their remarks the Vice Chancellor Emeritus Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu- Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, Immediate past Executive Director NRCRI Umudike, Dr Godwin Asomugha, Prof Chris Nwoko of School of Environmental Management and Ecosystem FUTO Owerri and Dean CNREM MOUAU Prof. Emma Nzegbule commended the guest speaker for his presentation and enjoined people to be environmental conscious and support efforts in tackling environmental degradation, deforestation, land pollution and biodiversity loss.
