The Imo State Police Command says its operatives have dismantled a notorious armed robbery gang terrorizing the residents of Owerri North LGA.
A release endorsed by the Command’s Police public relations officer, Henry Okoye attributes the breakthrough to enhanced security measures initiated by Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, to deal with violent crimes, especially at night.
According to the release, the feat was achieved on October 15, 2024, at approximately 3:20 AM, when a patrol team from the Owerri North Divisional Headquarters responded swiftly to a distress call about an armed robbery on Dominion Street near Don Kay, in Owerri North LGA.
The release which disclosed that on arrival the police encountered armed robbers who opened fire on them, however pointed out that the bravery of the officers enabled them to overcome them.
It further that while one suspect was neutralized, another sustained a gunshot injury and was arrested and the remaining gang members fled into the bushes.
The release revealed that a double-barrel gun and seven rounds of live cartridges were recovered from the arrested suspect.
“The Imo State Police Command remains committed to ensuring residents’ safety. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, and the police urge the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Together, we will uphold the rule of law in our communities,” the release stated.
