Hon Ogah’s Bill to establish National Institute for Organic Agriculture and food safety Research in Abia passes second reading.

A bill to establish the National Institute for organic Agriculture and food safety research at Ulonna North Farm Settlement, Isuikwuato, Abia State on Thursday passed its second reading at the House of Representatives.

The landmark bill sponsored by the member representing Isuikwuato / Umunneochi Federal constituency, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah seeks to enhance Nigeria’s agricultural sector, improve public health, and boost food security.

According to the bill, the Institute will focus on conducting in-depth research on organic food consumption’s impact on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), provide data-driven recommendations for national health policies and empower consumers through educational programs on organic food benefits.

It also aims at supporting research and development in organic agriculture and food safety and promoting sustainable organic agricultural practices and technologies.

The bill will now head for public hearing, before the final and third reading that will eventually lead to its passage and transmission to the Executive Arm for signing into law.

Reacting to the development, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah expressed happiness that the bill has passed its second reading and thanked his colleagues for their support.

He made it clear that the National Institute for Organic Agriculture and Food Safety Research will revolutionize Nigeria’s agricultural sector, improve public health, and contribute to the country’s economic growth.
