The member representing Isuikwuato/ Umunneochi federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Amobi Ogah has called for immediate attention of the Federal Government on the devastation of gullies in his constituency.
Moving a motion on the need to urge the federal ministry of Environment to use ecological funds in intervening in some erosion menace in the area, Hon Ogah named the sites to include 2.8 km Orie Ngodo – Evangel secondary school road, Obinulo Ngodo Isuochi, all in Umunneochi LGA and Umuokogbuo – Ahonta – Oporto road, Isuikwuato LGA.
Lamenting the hardship, the devastation has caused his constituents and other road users, the National Assembly member urged the House to mandate the federal ministry of Environment to as a matter of urgency embark on remediation work on the sites to save an already worrisome situation.
He pointed out that communities might soon be cut off from their neighbours, adding that with the rains beginning to intensify, lives and property would be threatened.
Hon Ogah informed his colleagues that economic activities in these areas are already dwindling as people dread passing through their roads for commercial engagements, stressing that only taking urgent steps could remedy the development.
The motion was referred to the House committee on Ecological fund by the Deputy speaker Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu who presided over House.
