Help yourselves, Govt cannot help you overcome present economic challenges – Fr. E Dey work tells Nigerians.

As most Nigerians continue to groan under biting economic policies and hardship, the Spiritual Director of Canaanland Counselling Centre, also known as E – Dey – Work Ministry, Rev. Fr. Dr. Magnus Ebere, SDV, has called on all to learn to diversify their sources of livelihoods.

Preaching during the “Covenant Day of open Heaven” on Wednesday at the Canaanland Counselling Centre, Umuoma Onicha, Ezinihitte Mbaise, Imo State, Fr. Ebere, popularly called Fr. E – Dey – Work, noted that the only solution to overcoming the current economic challenges is not relying on government intervention but making extra efforts in engaging in other areas outside one’s primary engagement.

The outspoken priest who pointed out that the Political Leadership of the country has failed in tackling crushing pains citizens are passing through, made it clear that liberation will never come from these leaders but from the people themselves.

Fr. E – Dey – Work therefore challenged Nigerians to as a matter of necessity begin to embark on food production regardless of the quantity, arguing that it is only when there is massive food production that prices of farm produce will drastically reduce.

He regretted that most Nigerians, even those residing in rural areas with vast arable land have abandoned farming due to laziness and revealed that many crops hitherto believed to only flourish in Northern Nigeria can today be grown in the South East.

The Catholic Priest therefore called on Ndigbo to learn to engage in animal husbandry, fishery, and vegetable farming within the little spaces in their residences, pointing out that many developed countries such as Israel, United States etc have used such systems to improve their well-being.

Referring to the uncaring attitude of government towards the citizenry, Fr. Ebere enjoined Civil Servants to imbibe the culture of saving from their meagre salaries no matter the amount, to serve as a source of investing in alternative business, stressing that the realities on ground today has shown that many Workers retire without alternative means of livelihoods, a situation that has led to negative ends.

Speaking on “How to provoke heaven for open doors”, the Spiritual Director however charged Christians to always open their hearts to God through commitment, pureness and dedication to the things of God.

He made it clear that a closed heart only brings about closed doors, adding that the more problems one solves for others, the more open Heaven or blessings for such a person.

“It is in your heart that God drops the key that opens the heavens. Heaven remains closed until a man’s heart opens. A closed heart is closed heaven,” Fr. E – Dey – Work emphasized.
