The Abia state Government is to commission seven roads in the state including University road, Green Avenue Road, College road, Kent by Ehi road and Old Court road all in Aba and the new 6 lane Ossah road and the dual carriage Dozie way recently rehabilitated in Umuahia.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture Prince Okey Kanu who stated this while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti, announced that the governor will equally next week commission the newly completed JAAC building at Ogurube layout Umuahia.
Prince Kanu said the commissioning galore is in line with Governor Alex Otti’s infrastructural development agenda, revealing that the present administration is not going to engage in any elaborate celebration of one year in office but would just mark the day with soft events.
“By next week as well, this government would have spent a year in office. Precisely on the 29th of May next week, it will be 366 days since His Excellency,Dr Alex Otti took over government in the state.It’s been a one year of impactful leadership. A one year in which His Excellency and his team has redefined governance. You will agree with me that the impact is not just felt in Abia state but Nigeria and beyond the shores of the country” Kanu reiterated.
According to him “In our usual style we are not going to celebrate the one year. If you recall when we turned 100 a lot of people were expecting us to celebrate. We are not going to celebrate as such but we will mark the day. It will be a period of retrospection. We will use a few soft events to mark the day”. The old narrative about Abia state about being underdeveloped, lagging behind in the comity of states and so on has changed dramatically within this period”.
The Commissioner however announced the few activities lined up to include the Governor holding town hall meetings across the 3 Senatorial zones of the state with that of Abia North taking place on Thursday this week at the Ohafia Local Government headquarters; Abia Central, on Friday this week in Umuahia and that of Abia South at the Aba Recreation Club on Tuesday next week.
He further disclosed that the wife of the governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti will visit destitute homes and vulnerable people in the state on Saturday this week; Sunday 26th would be thanksgiving Service at the International Conference Center Umuahia while anniversary Executive Council meeting will hold Monday next week with a statewide broadcast taking place on Wednesday next week being 29th May.
Prince Kanu who used the opportunity to state that the governor had directed security agencies in the state to fish out the cyclist that escaped with three school children belonging to one family recently in the state, assured the family of timely recovery of the children unhurt, while cautioning parents against handing their children over to strangers.
Responding to questions, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu disclosed that Governor Otti has directed that the road leading to the JAAC building be expanded having injected over one point five billion naira to complete the building, insisting that no government in history has injected funds in the local government level like the administration of Dr Alex Otti.
Reacting to some questions, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma noted that governor Alex Otti being open minded does not intend to turn his eye away from any project of the previous administrations, describing the JAAC building to be commissioned and host of others as typical example.
