The Local Government elections that will produce those to pilot the Executive and Legislative duties of various councils were held in Abia State this Saturday .
The poll was reported to be largely peaceful and recorded mixed grill in terms of turnout by the electorate.
Polling couldn’t begin on schedule in most areas following reported late arrival of electoral materials.
Addressing newsmen after casting his vote alongside his wife Lady Priscilla Otti at their ward 5,Unit 017 Ahiafor Umuru- Umuehim-Nvosi , Isialangwa South LGA, Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti expressed satisfaction with the turn out of the people and lauded the seamless process that characterized the exercise.
Governor Otti further noted with delight that security agencies were on ground for the smooth conduct of the elections.
Answering questions from newsmen after voting at his Ama-asa Ward 5,Unit 003 Osisioma Ngwa, the YPP Chairmanship Candidate for Osisioma Ngwa LGA Chief Chidi Agu, commended the electorate for turning out in their numbers for the exercise, describing the exercise as democracy in action.
Speaking after casting her vote, the Deputy Chairmanship candidate for Umuahia North under the Zenith Labour Party, Mrs. Chinwe Odoemenam, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the electorate and lauded security agents for providing adequate security for the polls.
In his reaction, the state commissioner of Police, Mr Danladi Isa, who personally monitored the polls, expressed satisfaction with the adequate deployment of security for the elections.
Speaking after casting his vote, the Mayor Umunneochi LGA, Ndubuisi Ike expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of Umunneochi people for polls and commended Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, for the peaceful nature of the Poll.
Meanwhile, results of the Poll is expected to be announced before the end of Sunday while swearing in of those elected may take place without delay to avoid any legal hindrance.
