First Six – lane road in Abia Capital Commissioned  

The 3.5 km 6-lane Aguiyi Ironsi Boulevard, formerly known as mission hill- Ossah road reconstructed by Governor Alex Otti has been commissioned by a former Chief of General Staff Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe as part of the activities marking the one-year anniversary in office.

Addressing the jubilant crowd during the ceremony held at the Okpara Square Umuahia, the Governor of Abia state,Dr Alex Otti who  pointed out that the aim was to enhance the aesthetics of Umuahia the state capital, recounted the challenges faced during the early stages of the project, expressed happiness that despite the initial discouragement from colleagues, his administration remained determined to transform the landscape of the state capital.

While stating that the Project was flagged off on September last year and completed on time, he noted that the state government initially identified about one hundred and thirty-five buildings for demolition and paid one hundred compensation before the commencement of the project.

The Governor used the opportunity to thank the people of Mgbaja Ossah for the support given to the Ministry of works as well as the contractor leading timely realization of the project.

Speaking on behalf of the Abia legislative caucus in the National Assembly, the member representing Isialangwa North and south federal Constituency,Chief Ginger Onwusibe while applauding the landmark achievements of the Governor within the period under review, said that Governor Alex Otti has achieved in one year what can be achieved in four years.

Speaking on the project, the Commissioner for works said the economic importance of the road can not be overemphasized as it will make for easy flow of traffic, improve aesthetics of the area, enhance socio- economic activities by extension the internally revenue generation of the state.

He appreciated the contractor for delivering a quality job within a record time, adding that the road is furnished with street lights and drainages on both sides of the road for its durability.

In his speech, the Mayor of Umuahia north LGA Chief Victor Ikeji while describing the project as unprecedented also thanked Governor Otti for not only concentrating his developmental strides at the city center but also empowering the mayors to extend same at the grassroot level.

In his remarks on behalf of the host Community, the Ossah-Ibeku Community, the traditional thanking the Governor for the project which has opened the area for greater economic Opportunities, described the project Ruler of Eziama na mgbaja Ossah autonomous Community,Eze Chiabuotu Emelike while as the beginning of Greater things for his Community.

The event which featured the unveiling of the new face of Okpara square, attracted the presence of who is who in the society including the deputy Governor Chief Ikechukwu Emetu, the Emir of Azare Nasarawa state Dr Kabiru Ibrahim and wife among other distinguished Personalities.
