FGGC, Umuahia celebrate children’s day in a grandstyle.

Students of federal Government Girls College, Umuahia, Abia State joined their counterparts all over Nigeria in celebrating this year’s children’s Day in a special way as they stayed in their premise to engage in march pass and other social activities.

Declaring open the colourful ceremony organized by the management in collaboration with the Parents Teachers Association of the School at the FGGC Umuahia mini stadium, a director federal ministry of education and principal of the school, Mrs. Ngozi Kalu Idika called for increased advocacy in promoting the rights, education, security and welfare of children in Nigeria.

She described children as future hopes of the country and appreciated the federal ministry of education for allowing its colleges to celebrate the day for the first time under the current regime of president Bola Tinubu.

In their remarks Chairman of the Parents Teachers Association PTA FGGC Umuahia Mrs. Oluchi Philip and the Public Relations Officer of the Association Mr. Cyril Nwaubani described the event as a way of showing unique love to the children while calling for urgent intervention from the government at all levels to tackle the issue of out of school children head-on.

Delivering a thank you speech on behalf of her fellow students, Miss Chidinma Okwuchienti lauded the efforts at promoting inclusivity, describing children as precious gifts that bring joy to the world and must be empowered to fight for their rights and fulfil their potential.

The event featured a match pass by various student houses, cultural dances that showcased different ethnic groups in Nigeria, talk show on promoting inclusivity, poem by miss Favour Nzem, cutting of cakes amongst other highlights.
