Enugu Teachers call for the provision of boxing training equipment for schools

In his avowed determination to ensure the success of the next edition of the Enugu State grassroots boxing talent hunt, Ex International Boxer and Coordinator of the programme, Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo says he will soon complete his training tour of the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.

Speaking with Hanto Daily News after his visit to Community Secondary School, Nimbo, Uzo Uwani LGA, Mazi Okoronkwo disclosed that he has already visited 13 council areas.

The Sports Ambassador disclosed that about 20 talents were discovered in the school with Ameh Mathias topping the list.

He commended the enthusiasm exhibited by staff and students of the school and enjoined the students to see the forth – coming tournament as an opportunity to empower themselves and bring honour to their council and the State.

Reacting to the visit, some Teachers commended Mazi Okoronkwo and the Speaker Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Uche C. Ugwu for their efforts in providing students such a nurturing platform and pledged their support to the programme.

They however appealed to the State Government and public spirited individuals to assist the school in securing boxing training equipment to enable the students develop their talents without much financial stress.

The highlight of the training tour was the donation of pairs of boxing gloves to the students.
