Emir Sanusi shuns police directive on Durbar

Despite Police directive banning all forms of Durbar in Kano for Sunday’s Sallah celebration, the reinstated Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, still went ahead with the traditional celebration of the Sallah Durbar.

Eye wirtnesses say, the Emir, riding a horse, took the usual route back home, stopping to receive greetings and homage from individuals and groups along the way.

Reports have it that earlier, the Emir had led Eid prayers and a sermon at the Kofar Mata Jumu’at mosque, which was attended by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other cabinet members.

According to reports, the prayers were held at the mosque due to heavy rain that flooded the Eid ground.

Recall, Kano Police Command had announced a ban on Sallah Durbar after a joint security meeting, citing security concerns.

However, Governor Yusuf in a swift response expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, stating that the police did not consult him, the Chief Security Officer of the State, before making the announcement.
