Ebonyi records 13 deaths from Cholera outbreak.

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma says Cholera outbreak in the State has claimed 13 lives in some remote communities in Ebonyi and Izzi Local Government Areas.

Briefing Newsmen on the development this Saturday, Dr. Ekuma named the communities to include Oferekpe, Okum and Ndibokote.

While stating that the State Government and other health partners are working round the clock to prevent escalation of the cases, the Commissioner disclosed that 69 cases have also been confirmed in these affected communities.

He attributed the outbreak to a bacteria and assured that the State Government will do everything possible action to prevent escalation and further outbreak.

Reacting to the situation, a Youth leader of Ndibokote village, Moses Nwebonyi, some stakeholders and a health worker described the outbreak as worrisome and commended the State Government and Health Officials for their intervention.

They however appealed for the provision of basic social amenities, especially, water, standard health facilities,
Electricity and good road network to help tackle the root cause of such outbreaks.

Reports have it that one of the communities, Ndibokote Village of Ezza inyimagu, in Izzi Local Government Area that has boundary with Benue State lack access to portable pipe borne water, roads, health care, electricity and other basic amenities that has been of concern to the people.
