The Ebonyi State Police Command says Four persons have been arrested and investigation launched over the abduction and death of Magnus Okeke, an extra year student of the Department of Accountancy in the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufo Alike, Ikwo, (AE-FUNAI) in Ebonyi State.
The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu who confirmed the incident, pointed out that investigation is on course.
” Four persons have been arrested in connection of the incident, it’s still under investigation to establish if he was kidnapped for ransom or if he was murdered, or if it’s cult related. But the suspects are still being interrogated.” Ukandu Explained.
According to the University Management, Magnus Okeke was said to be Abducted on June 1, when returning back to his private hostel where he resides at a remote Ohankwu village, Ndufu-Alike Community.
In a release,the Public Relations officer of the University, Elom Ubochi said Unfortunately, on Monday, 17th June, 2024, the decomposing body of Magnus was recovered under the bridge of Ako stream at Nwakpu village, along Ikwo/Abakaliki road after efforts by the University Management through its Directorate of Security Affairs that worked closely with the police and other security agencies to ensure his safe rescue from his captors.
The Statement further States that there was no cult-related war in the university campus in which Magnus was killed as being insinuated in some quarters while appealing to anyone with useful information that could aid in the investigation to come forward and assist the authorities.
Hanto Daily News recalls that he Abduction and death of Magnus Okeke, an extra year student of AE-FUNAI is coming barely one month after one Miss Favour Ugwuka, an extra year student of Ebonyi State University was reported to have committed suicide over a lecturer failing her repeatedly.
