Compulsory Weekly ticketing: Abia Government bows to pressure

Following series of protests by commercial Keke operators and concerns raised by stakeholders in the state, the Abia State Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced the immediate suspension of the compulsory weekly tickets for Keke Operators, Motor Cycle Operators and Commercial vehicle Operators.

A release endorsed by the Executive Chairman, Abia IRS, explained that the action followed feedback from stakeholders, stating that it will maintain the Daily Ticket feature on the e-ticketing applications.

The release therefore directed all vendors and app providers are to continue to enable the daily ticket feature.

According to the release, Monthly tickets, will remain unchanged and will continue to be available as usual.

It would be recalled that Keke operators in Umuahia last Tuesday embarked on protest blocking strategic junctions in the city to express their anger over the compulsory weekly ticketing.
