Senior Special Assistant to Abia Governor on Due Process, Dr. Oluebube Chukwu says Governor Alex Otti’s recent decision to eliminate enumeration fees for tricycle (Keke) operators in Abia State has not only provided much needed financial relief but also garnered praise from the operators across the state.
In a release, Dr. Chukwu expressed his deep appreciation to the Governor for the gesture, considering the economic challenges currently facing the country, with the rising cost of living due to skyrocketing fuel prices.
According to him, “This is more than just a policy change. It is an act of love, compassion and understanding, especially in these times of economic hardship. The Governor’s decision has brought tears of joy to many faces and has shown that he truly understands the struggles of the common man.”
While noting that the previous administration had imposed heavy levies on Keke operators during similar exercises, the Senior Special Assistant observed with delight that the decision to remove these fees has resulted to Keke operators having more of their hard earned income.
Dr. Chukwu also noted the broader implications of this decision on the state’s economy saying, “When you ease the financial burden on those at the grassroots, it has a ripple effect throughout the society. These Keke operators are the backbone of our local transportation system. By supporting them, we are supporting the entire economy”.
He pointed out that Governor Otti’s decision aligns with his broader commitment to easing the economic hardships faced by the people of Abia State since assuming office, stressing that what Nigerians need today is compassionate Leadership.
