After much negotiations and dilly dallying, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has finally announced the appointment of German tactician, Bruno Labbadia as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
Confirming this in the early hours of this Tuesday the NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed that the appointment was announced after the NFF Executive Committee approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee.
“The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The appointment is with immediate effect,” he said.
Labbadia, born on February 8, 1966, in Darmstadt, Germany, won two caps for Germany during his playing career and holds a UEFA Pro License. becomes the sixth German to lead the Super Eagles.
The new coach will immediately swing into action to handle two crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda in September as well as oversee four additional matches in October and November to conclude the qualifying campaign.
The German EX- international who becomes the sixth German to lead the Super Eagles had his managerial stint with Darmstadt 98 (2003-2006), Greuther Fürth (2007-2008), Bayer Leverkusen (2008-2009), Hamburger SV (2009-2010), VfB Stuttgart (2010-2013), Hamburger SV (2015-2016), VfL Wolfsburg (2018-2019), Hertha BSC (2020-2021) and VfB Stuttgart (2022-2023)
