Abia Govt commences demolition of structures on school land

In its determination to right the wrongs of the past, Abia State Government has commenced the demolition of structures erected by illegal occupants of land belonging to Government College Umuahia.

Addressing Journalists during the exercise, the General Manager, Umuahia Capital Development Authority, (UCDA), Mr Kingsley Agomoh, said the exercise serves as a warning to those who are fond of encroaching on government land.

The UCDA General Manager noted that the state government handed over the Government College Umuahia to the Old Boys with a Certificate of Occupancy and wondered why some individuals will embark on selling government land.

While stressing the need for people to properly verify before acquiring plots of land, Mr Agomoh explained that the illegal occupants were duly served before the demolition, adding that the structures still standing on the encroached areas now belong to the government College Umuahia.
Baring his mind, the Chairman Umuana Ndume lbeku, Mr Friday Ohaeri made it clear that the land belongs to the government College Umuahia, emphasizing that their forefathers voluntarily donated the land to the government.

Speaking, the Second National Vice President of Government College Old Boys Association, Eze Justice Chinonyerem Uwaka recalled that the encroached areas used to be the college farmland, revealing that they had in the past asked the illegal occupants who claimed that the land was sold to them by Umuana people to vacate the area
