It was a day of historic recognition for Anikwe Maxwell, a boxer that won a gold medal for Awgu Local Government Area at the 7th edition of Grassroots Boxing Talent Hunt, as the entire Council led by the Chairman, Hon Uchenna Joseph Okolo laid a red carpet for the Golden boy.
The Grassroots exercise sponsored by the Speaker Enugu state House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Uche C. Ugwu, led to the discovery of many raw talents including Anikwe Maxwell by the coordinator of the programme, Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman Agwu LGA, Hon. Okolo lauded the young boxer for bringing honour to the Council and assured him of his maximum support.
The Chairman who commended the Speaker Enugu State House of Assembly, the Enugu State Government and the coordinator, Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo for their efforts further announced the donation of N200,000 to the young Boxer.
Speaking with Hanto Daily News after the reception, Mazi Okoronkwo expressed delight at the enthusiasm exhibited by the Awgu Local Government, Chairman and enjoined other Council leaders to emulate him.
He further assured his determination to ensure the successful organization of the next edition of the event which will soon be held and thanked the Speaker for his desire to empower Youths through sports.
