The Attorney General of Federation and Minister of Justice Chief Lateef Fagbemi has lauded the Nigerian Immigration Service for making significant strides in improving passport acquisition and the recently launched integrated border governance and E-verification initiative to enhance national security.
Chief Fagbemi who made the commendation this Thursday while delivering an opening speech at the 2024 Nigerian Immigration Lawyers Association(NILA) Immigration Law and Policy Conference, noted that the country’s ministry of Interior and the Immigration authorities are not only working in tandem with the renewed hope mantra of President Bola Tinubu but have made outstanding efforts to improve Nigeria’s immigration landscape.
The Attorney general of the federation and minister of justice described the conference as a vital platform for discussing and slapping the future of Immigration Law and Policy in Nigeria.
He described the theme of the conference “New Realities in the Nigerian Immigration Law and Policy Stratosphere” as crucial and timely, maintaining that Nigeria with its large market and natural resources has become a hub of multinational organizations that attract highly skilled professionals.
Chief Fagbemi who described NILA’s dedication to promoting justice and advancing the quality of immigration law and practices in Nigeria as topnotch also acknowledged the leadership of the association led by (Obi) Prof. Epiphany Azinge, Prince Ebere Nwokoro, Dame Geirgina Ehuria-Arisa, Dr. Roland Otaru and Dr. Sirajo Yakubu for their collective action and commitment towards the betterment of the nation.
The senior Advocate of Nigeria however expressed confidence that the conference will recommend reforms that will that will enhance the extant legislative framework while assuring NILA of his ministry’s collaboration for an effective immigration system that benefits all stakeholders.
The conference is expected to be rounded off on Friday.
