The 2024 Men of Honours conference of the Canaanland Counselling Centre, A.KA. E – Dey – Work has ended at the Ministry’s Headquarters, Umuoma Onicha, Ezinihitte Mbaise, Imo State Nigeria with a charge on Christian Men to assume their God given role of being the overall heads of their families.
Preaching on the topic, the blessedness of fatherhood, at the four – day – spirit filled colourful event, the Spiritual Director of the Commission, Rev. Fr. Dr. Magnus Ebere, SDV, popularly known as Fr. E – Dey – Work, described Fathers as life givers, protectors and providers for their families and made it clear that any Father that fails in performing these duties cannot proudly claim to be the head.
Fr. E – Dey – Work noted that Fathers are the Spiritual Heads and Priests of their families and as such are the Custodians of blessings for their Children and charged them to actively takeover their priestly roles in order to show that that they share the same attribute with the Almighty God, the Creator who is also addressed “Father”.
The outspoken Catholic Priest who further stressed the need for Fathers to make their presence always felt by their Children and families, pointed out that Fathers whose Children do not feel their absence when they travel or are out from their homes are those who have failed in delivering their expected roles as protectors and providers.
While lamenting that many Men have abandoned their roles to their wives, he reminded such people of the dangers of these careless acts to their lives and called on all fathers to henceforth learn to be close to their Children to avert unexpected abandonment in future.
Rev. Fr. Ebere described this year’s team, “Fatherhood, the glory of the Family” (proverbs 17:6) as apt considering the observed relationship between the present day fathers and their families and challenged participants to prove that they are the glories of their various families by showing physical, emotional and material presence.
In his address, the President Men of Honours International, Sir Reginald Odunze said the gathering which has become an annual event for all Married Male Adorers of the Ministry offers participants the opportunity to draw closer to God and seek ways of improving their performance as heads of their families.
Sir Odunze further explained that the gathering is also an avenue to teach Men on various means of creating wealth, maintaining sound health and ensuring harmonious social living in their families and society and thanked members for participating actively in the conference.
The action and spirit filled Conference which featured lectures on the role of Fathers in building and management of responsible family, Cucumber Production, Herbal Medicine and Exploring the business skills of the 21st century drew participants from all the zones of the Ministry within Nigeria.
Owerri Zone led by Chief Francis Ogbuji (Ukoromi) volunteered to sponsor the 2025 edition, an act which is the first by any zone since the commencement of the gathering some years ago.
