Abia Police Command vows to apprehend attackers of Rep’s Convoy

Abia State Police Command says its Tactical teams have been deployed to track down the fleeing Gunmen who attacked the covonoy of Honourable Ginger Onwusibe, the member representing Isiala-Ngwa North/South Federal Constituency, leaving an Inspector, Bala Mohammed dead with another officer and the driver escaping.

A release endorsed by the PPRO, ASP Maureen C Chinaka says that on getting the signal the area was immediately combed by officers of the command and comprehensive search operation launched to locate the attackers.

According to the release, on Sunday, 17/11/2024, at about 8.30 PM, two police officers, from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 4, Makurdi Inspector Dunna Jatau and Inspector Bala Mohammed assigned to Honorable Ginger Onwusibe, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Nsiala-Ngwa North/South constituency, were ambushed by armed assailants while on official duty in Umuahia.

The officers were in a Police Toyota Hilux vehicle after accompanying and dropping off Honorable Onwusibe in Umuahia and was on their way, near Umuahia South Local Government Area Secretariat in Ubakala, when their vehicle was intercepted by armed men dressed in black attire, operating in a Toyota Corolla with tinted windows.

The assailants were said to have blocked the path of the police vehicle and opened fire

The Abia State Police Command reiterated its commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice and urged the public to remain calm, stay security conscious while going about their activities.
