Abia Govt to sanction schools disobeying resumption directive

Abia State Government is to sanction Schools that resumed academic activities earlier than the 23rd September resumption date.

The Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu who stated this while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting Presided over by Governor Alex Otti regretted that some Schools resumed for the session against government’s directives, an action that runs counter to the strong regulatory measures being put in place by the present administration.

“So the ministry of education will carry out some investigations to find out those that did and why they did”, Prince Kanu emphasized .

He equally noted with concerns that the Committee on the recovery of School lands has observed that apart from private individuals, religious organizations, Communities and market Associations were part of the anomalies, and assured that the Committee is not relenting in the task.

The information Commissioner used the forum to warn against the malicious destruction of public Properties, revealing that the management of a company that damaged newly constructed culvert along Ossah-mission hill road have been arrested.

“The state government is using this opportunity to call on communities, traditional rulers, youths to take ownership of all government properties within their communities”, he advised.

The commissioner disclosed that Governor, Dr Alex Otti will be hosting a delegation of South East Council of Traditional Rulers on the 24th of this month.

Answering questions from newsmen, the GM Umuahia Capital Development Agency, Mr Kingsley Agomoh said that over 15 Culverts have been destroyed along the newly commissioned 6-lane Aguiyi Ironsi Bulevard, adding that government will no longer fold its arms and watch facilities put in place for Public use destroyed.
