There are indications that the Abia State Government will soon address developmental challenges facing a boundary community, Umuchieze in Umunneochi LGA.
Commissioner for lands, Mr Chaka Chukwumerije who broke the cheering News while receiving the membership of Umuchieze family meeting, Umuahia branch in his office assured that the State will reconstruct the old federal road that traversed the community.
He further revealed that he was in discussions with his colleague, the Commissioner for power and public utilities over the realization of the Chieze electricity project, adding that the comprehensive secondary school will soon receive the government’s attention.
According to the Commissioner, Umuchieze, a major revenue yielding area in the state, is part of the new Abia being developed by the Dr Alex Otti administration and will soon witness a ground breaking ceremony for a Housing estate to accommodate the business community that will be operating from the modern multi goods market at the present cattle market.
On the demand for urgent attention to the marginalization of the community in political appointments and in the civil service, the Commissioner assured that attention will be given to the situation and called on the people to remain united.
Speaking earlier, a former Commissioner in Abia, Prince Dan Okoli reminded Mr Chukwumerije that a lot still needed to be done to tackle the human and infrastructural development of the area and enjoined him to use his good offices to assist Ndi Chieze in benefitting from government.
While commending the efforts of the Abia State Governor in halting the tide of insecurity that prevailed in the area, Prince Okoli noted that women can now farm without fear of attacks by kidnappers and killer herdsmen and lauded Mr Chukwumerije for making Umunneochi proud through his outstanding performance as a Commissioner.
In an address presented on behalf of the Chairman of the Association, Comrade Hyacinth Okoli, the secretary, Dr Ernest Egeonu reminded the state government of the need to address the infrastructural challenges in the community which is a major revenue yielding area of the state and assured of their support to the Dr Otti administration.
In their speeches, the Chairperson women’s wing Eziada Chika Emma Kelechi and a former Councillor , Mr Sopuruchukwu Igwe called on the Commissioner to assist in ensuring that an indigene of the area is elevated to the position of Permanent Secretary as there are qualified people from the area.
