The member representing the South East in the North East Development Commission, Chief Sam Onuigbo has called on the people of Abia state, particularly, the political class to shun fanning the embers of discord among their leaders.
Chief Onuigbo who was reacting to a statement attributed to the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Chief Benjamin Kalu, described the reactions trailing the said video clip as a distraction to the two prominent sons of the state who are always co-collaborators in the development of the state.
” When you have this type of partnership which I know that exist between the Governor and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, when you have this type of collaboration, cordial collaboration that is yielding results for the people of the state, it is not advisable that we allow people to bring trouble between them.
As for me, I guess that some people want to blow this up and create bad blood. But it should not be encouraged”, he opined.
According to the former lawmaker, “the people should understand why the Deputy Speaker called for support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has not only done well by appointing some of our people into prominent positions in his government such as the position of a Service Chief which eluded the South East Zone in the past 8 years before the present administration but has also appointed our people into key ministerial positions”.
He noted that before the present government, the National Assembly had passed the bill for the South East Development Commission without it being assented to by the Buhari regime but under President Tinubu it has been achieved within a period of about one year.
“Someone who has done this actually deserves commendation and encouragement to do more. So there is nothing wrong in the Deputy Speaker saying so”, Onuigbo noted.
He said when properly set up, the commission will help in addressing some of the infrastructural and ecological challenges of the South East Zone.
Chief Onuigbo acknowledged that the Governor, Dr Alex Otti has done well in office by scaling up the infrastructure of the state and other aspects, adding that the Governor has not looked at party differences in engaging and collaborating with other stakeholders to attract development to the state.
“I am a member of the APC and I have been working well with Governor Otti who is a member of the Labour Party. The projects that I facilitated when I was representing the good people of great Ikwuano/ Umuahia Federal Constituency, some of which were not completed before I left office, I have shown to the Governor and I am happy to say here that he is doing exceedingly well in ensuring that some of them are completed”, the NEDC Member observed.
