Abia First Lady, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has called on the State Police Command to establish a dedicated gender desk, equipped with the necessary tools and staffed by trained facilitators.
Speaking when she paid a courtesy and advocacy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Abia State, CP Danladi Isa, in commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Mrs Otti noted that the proposed desk would work in collaboration with community stakeholders to tackle gender-related issues effectively.
She emphasized the critical role the police play as frontline defenders in the protection of citizens and stressed the need for strengthening collaboration to address gender-based violence.
The wife of the Governor commended the Commissioner of Police for his efforts in combating crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property of the citizenry.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police informed the wife of the Governor of existing structures in the Police such as the Gender Section at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and the Juvenile and Women’s Center (JWC) at the divisional level, which are staffed by female resource personnel dedicated to handling gender-related cases.
He assured the delegation of the police’s commitment to improving their services in the fight against gender-based violence.
