Abia community bans sale and consumption of hard drugs

Following the devastating effect of the consumption of hard drugs on youths and the citizenry, the People of Okon Aku Ohafia in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia state, a community reputed for her bravery and traditonal practices, have announced the total banning of the sale and intake of Indian hemp and other form of hard drugs in the community

A communique issued at the end of the General Assembly held at Okon Aku Ohafia Community Hall and signed by Nnaka 4th of Okon Aku Ohafia, Eze Ndukwe Iko, Ezeogo of the Community, OKon Aku Development Union, ODU, branches Chairman, Mr. Okorie Kamah, explained that the ban came as a result of the Security report received on cultism and drug abuse in the community.

The communique which warned that anybody caught selling or smoking Indian hemp or other hard drugs will be severely dealt with made public that the Okon Aku General Assembly relieved the Chief Mecha Ume led National Executive of their duties following a vote of no confidence passed by the Assembly and further directed them to hand over to the chairman of ODU branches chairman Mr. Kamah Okorie within seven days.

According to the Communique, the Assembly also confirmed the nomination of Mr. Mba Oti Arunsi, Pastor Obasi kalu, Mrs. Mercy Mong lgwe, Chief Onwuka Uko and Chief Zik Nnamdi Udumna asBoard of Trustee members of Okon Aku Community.

It further confirmed the nomination of the membership of Nnaka’s cabinet to include: Dr Oti Ikpo, Dr B.A Ereji, Elder Johnson Uche Oka, Omaka Agwu Arua, Chief Urem Ulu Ikpo, elder Patience Uko Uche, Pastor Jasper Ukaha Mong, Eze Iwo Ukpai, Chief Chinedu kalu Erem and Chief Theophilus Kalu Mba.

The Assembly also resolved to review the community’s constitution to be in tandem with the generally accepted standard, reconstitute the membership of Okon Aku Youths body for effectiveness and to facilitate the upgrading of their pilot Health Center to a General Hospital for efficient service delivery.
