The Abakaliki Catholic Diocese marriage of any priest has dismissed the alleged wedding of a priest in the Diocese, describing it as a baseless rumour.
In a release endorsed by the Chancellor, Abakiliki Catholic Diocese, Rev Mathew Uzoma Opoke, the Diocese made it clear that no priest by the name Rev. Fr. Jude Obasi is associated with their diocese, despite rumours circulating online.
The Diocese while strongly refuting these claims, stated that no such event involving a priest or former priest getting married took place on the specified date, adding that the individual in the photo being shared online does not match the appearance of any of their priests.
The Church further revealed that there is no native priest from Afikpo North Local Government Area affiliated with their Diocese and made it clear that there is no church named St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Abakaliki under their jurisdiction.
There were social media rumors claiming that Fr. Obasi, reportedly from Afikpo North Local Government Area of the State, had married his partner on the 25th of May, 2024 at St Mary’s Catholic Church Abakaliki.
