Aba killings: Crime resurges around Obikabia junction axis

Residents and people doing business within Obikabia junction in Aba are now living in fear following the resurgence of crime in the area.

According to reports, the criminals who operate in tricycles have inflicted those living within Ukaegbu and Umuola roads with heavy losses and fear as snatching of phones and bags as well as shooting at some victims are now witnessed frequently along the roads

 Speaking with Hanto Daily News some of the people who pleaded anonymity blamed the surging of criminal activities in the area on the absence of the military who were attacked and killed at the junction last two weeks.

They made it clear that the situation now forces them to close earlier than usual to avoid any armed robbery or gang attacks and appealed for the intervention of the state government.

They therefore called for return of the military personnel or the presence of other security outfits around the area to give the people maximum protection and prevent these criminals from menacing in the area.

Hanto Daily News recalls that since the killing of five soldiers on the 30th of May, 2024 by unknown gunmen at the junction, there has been no presence of security personnel at the strategic check point.
