There are indications that the leadership of the Labour Party in Abia State is making bold and unexpected moves towards ensuring the emergence of the party’s candidates for the forth coming Local Government elections.
As first step there are reports that all Transition Committee Chairmen ( Mayors) , Deputy Chairmen ( Deputy Mayors) and Councillors in Abia State have been disqualified from Contesting the elections.
According to this unconfirmed reports as no party or government official could speak to the issue, the decision was the outcome of the meeting the Governor, Dr Alex Otti held with the Mayors and LP stakeholders in his Nvosi country home on Sunday.
According to the source, those who declared for the party after the 2023 general elections are also disqualified from the race.
This is to ensure that only those who worked for the party during the days of PDP are adequately compensated and to avoid handing over power to those whose loyalty remain untested.
Hanto Daily News learnt that the Mayors have been making moves to contest in the November polls, a decision that has received mixed reactions.
This disqualification was blamed on the failure of the Mayors , Deputy Mayors and councillors to resign in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution as, amended.
Meanwhile, there are indications that the party will this Monday address a news conference with focus expected to be around issues concerning the LG Polls.
