Following reports of ticket racketeering on the Abuja – Kaduna train service, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has initiated an investigation into the issue.
The alleged racketeering is said to be largely responsible for the ongoing difficulties passengers face in purchasing tickets online for the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service.
According to reports, the investigating team is being led by the Deputy Director of Information and Communications Technology.
A statement endorsed by the NRC’s Deputy Director of Public Relations, Yakub Mahmood, acknowledged the recent ticketing issues and disclosed steps being taken to resolve them.
The statement pointed out that it was to this end that the Managing Director appointed Mohammed Modibo Ibrahim, previously in charge of Enugu Station, as the new Manager of the Abuja-Kaduna Train Station, effective immediately.
The NRC further made public of its plans to increase the frequency of trains on the Abuja-Kaduna route within the next two weeks to meet growing demand.
The corporation assured passengers that efforts are underway to restore normalcy and urged the public to be patient as they work to bring the situation under control.
