2024 NILA Conference ends with Stakeholders vowing to push for innovations

The 2024 Nigerian Immigration Lawyers Association (NILA) Conference has ended with resolve by experts, policymakers, and stakeholders in the field of immigration law and policy to demonstrate more commitment and collaboration as the Association continues to push the boundaries of knowledge and innovation for advancements.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, the first vice oresident of NILA, Prince Ebere Nwokoro expressed optimism that the discussions, insights, and recommendations from the conference will significantly contribute to improving immigration law and policy in Nigeria.

Prince Nwokoro reiterated the Association’s confidence in achieving a more effective and efficient migration management system that balances national security concerns with human rights and economic necessities.

In his submissions during a thought-provoking discussion on the topic, “Strengthening Policy and Legislative Frameworks for Migrants’ Rights”, Professor Mrs. Cheluchi Onyemelukwe x-rayed the critical intersection of migration, health, gender, and human rights while highlighting the misaligned provisions and implementation gaps in the current policy and legislative framework.

Professor Onyemelukwe also went ahead to offered valuable recommendations for improvements and launched NILA journal which aims to ptovide a platform for scholars, practitioners and policy makers to share their research and insights on immigration law and policy issues.

Highpoints of the Conference were series of insightful presentations and discussions which had experts including Dr.Aminu Idris and Dr. Nsemba Lenshie weigh in on the Future of Border Management in Nigeria as it affects Technology, Infrastructure, and Cooperation as well as the unveiling of the maiden edition of the NILA Law Journal by a member of the board of Trustee of the Association Dr. Roland Otaru amongst other things.
